Congratulations on your decision to
own an original Ben Dye sculpture
When choosing to have a custom piece made, there are a few things to consider:
The Custom Art Journey:
1) Choosing the Right Artist: It may seem obvious, but you want to make sure the artist you choose works in a style you like. You don’t want to ask them to create something in a different style. To me, the most important part about completing and installing your piece is putting my name on it. Therefore, please establish a comfort level with my work before contacting me about a custom piece. Take the time to understand my artistic reputation, the communities where my work is/has been displayed, and to request any references you need. That way our time together will be spent discussing your piece, not selling you on my capabilities.
2) Complementary Site Visit: During my initial site visit, my goal is to get as much information as I can regarding your vision of the piece. We discuss size, materials, color pallet, location, weight, and logistical challenges regarding installation. Together, these elements will determine the design concepts I create as well as the project budget and turnaround time.
3) Personal Connection: A custom piece is more than a sculpture; it’s a story that aligns with something significant to you such as a memory, relationship, or experience. By commissioning my work, you’re trusting me to interpret your ideas and feelings through my design. During the initial site visit, I want to hear what the piece means to you and what it’s meant to convey.
4) Deposit: Before beginning the design phase, I require a non-refundable deposit (10% - 30% of budget).
5) Design: Regardless of budget, my design time is about the same for all projects. I usually create three design options based on our discussion during the initial site visit. If you change your concept of the piece after the design phase, the budget will increase accordingly.
6) Art Brokers/Interior Designers: I am happy to work with art brokers and interior designers.
